Is a testing focus squeezing out field trips?

More school districts are choosing to spend on preparation for high-stakes standardized tests rather than field trips, says Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. Field trips offer great value in allowing students to explore academic concepts outside the classroom, Weingarten says. This article also suggests teachers make the most of field trips by preparing students, using social media, connecting the trips to lessons learned in class or career opportunities and taking virtual trips.
