Ariens: Work on problem-solving skills

Dan Ariens, president and CEO of Ariens Co. in Brillion, Wis., notes that the manufacturing industry has a skills gap in its workforce but says workers can learn those skills at the plant. What he would prefer to see students focus on in school is problem-solving. His company works with students at Brillion High School, and they visit the plant, getting involved in a "real live product-development process." The result is that students want to come work for the company, he says.
