Zanzibar offers an atypical island experience

White sand beaches, a unique blend of cultures and centuries of history draw tourists to Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania. Visitors can explore the ancient alleys of Stone Town, reminiscent of Damascus or Cairo, or learn about the island's spice trade. Zanzibar and other Muslim islands off the coast of Africa are seeing more Western tourists despite unrest in the Middle East, The New York Times reports.
