California, Wisconsin continue cheese production debate

California may be poised to take over from Wisconsin as the leading cheese producer in the U.S. as early as next year, but Wisconsin supporters tout the state's variety, quality and niche markets of cheese. California produced 2.1 billion pounds of cheese last year, and Wisconsin produced 2.4 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
