Governor moves to overturn state superintendent's reappointment

With the Maryland State Board of Education's decision to renew state Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick's contract, Maryland's governor and some leading state lawmakers have begun making preparations to try and oust her. Gov. Martin O'Malley and some top legislators have made it plain they don't want Grasmick to continue in the role, which makes the board's move, according to a Baltimore Sun editorial, "puzzling and galling."
