LEED pushes developers to focus on durability

The increasing emphasis on LEED certification is pushing more developers to focus on durability, observers say. They note that developers tend to purchase better materials when there is a LEED status requirement for durability. "Better quality material selection is extending the building's life which, in turn, is really reshaping perspectives on building," noted Douglas Watts, an architect and engineer for Read Jones Christoffersen.
