Apple disables API query that detected modified devices

Apple has quietly withdrawn an application program interface for its iOS operating software that helped developers detect whether a "jailbreak" had occurred on an Apple device. The company took the step less than six months after adding the API, but developers say there are other ways to query whether an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch has been modified.
