Federal grant will help pay for Chinese classes in Ill. district

A $1.5 million federal grant will help fund Mandarin immersion classes from kindergarten through high school in an Illinois district. The grant will pay for classes to begin in elementary grades and will allow for the addition of classes at the middle school and high school levels. The district will partner with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to develop a K-16 model of study, and college-level Chinese classes will be provided for high school seniors.
