Insiders worry SEC will significantly boost trading costs

The Securities and Exchange Commission is poised to increase the Section 31 securities-transaction tax from $16.90 per million dollars to $19.20, a 13.6% boost. The increase will take effect 30 days after the regulator's budget for 2011 is adopted. Executives in the trading industry are concerned that Section 31 fees could significantly increase in 2012 as the SEC expands.
