How bringing celebrations into the classroom can benefit students

Rutgers University professor Maurice Elias offers questions for teachers to use in guiding a classroom lesson on holiday celebrations, which he believes contribute to students' character and emotional intelligence. Elias suggests that teachers have students share their family's celebrations and those of others they know, considering the most important parts of the celebrations and the reasons for celebrating. Students also may do additional research or interview family members to gain more insight, Elias writes.
