OIG backs proposed EHR data exchange service for patient referrals

The HHS Office of Inspector General has approved a proposed arrangement that would enable an undisclosed company to offer a "coordination service" to support the exchange of EHR data among providers for the purpose of making patient referrals. "The efficient exchange of health information between health professionals is a laudable goal," according to an advisory opinion posted on the OIG's website.
