Research from The NPD Group shows that Americans consume close to the recommended amount of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy and protein about seven days a year, and they typically do so by eating more than three meals a day. "We know through our ongoing research that consumers are more aware of what constitutes a healthy diet, but we also know what they say and what they do when it comes to eating are often different," said NPD analyst Darren Seifer.
