Lab study examines link between formula, necrotizing enterocolitis

The digestion of infant formula caused significantly more harm to cells that line the intestines and blood vessels in a lab test compared with breast milk, according to a study in the journal Pediatric Research. This cell death is associated with necrotizing enterocolitis, a disease that predominantly affects prematurely born infants.
