Detroit Schools To Suffer Heavy Cuts

Faced with a projected $88 million to $118 million deficit for 2002-03, Detroit Public Schools officials plan to cut summer school programs, lay off workers, limit supplies and suspend non-emergency repairs. Detroit Public Schools CEO Kenneth Burnley said the cuts will help maintain a balanced budget for the remainder of the school year.
