Study: Millions could have esophageal condition in U.S.

A study of about 3,000 Swedish residents found that 2% had Barrett's esophagus, a condition that can lead to esophageal cancer, and applying the same rate to the U.S. population could mean that more than 3 million Americans also have the condition. The study also found Barrett's esophagus can be present in people who don't have gastroesophageal reflux disease, which was believed to be a precursor for Barrett's esophagus.
