Merck's Sirna acquisition clears hurdle

Merck and biotech Sirna Therapeutics say the federal regulatory antitrust waiting period has expired, putting Merck's $1.1 billion buyout closer to completion. While the sale must clear other normal closing conditions, including Sirna stockholder approval, the merger could be completed this month or in early 2007.
