Trans pol won't join Maryland legislature

Dana Beyer, a transgender Montgomery County political aide who sought appointment to the Maryland House of Delegates to serve out the term of the late Democratic Delegate Jane Lawton, withdrew her name from consideration. Had she been appointed by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, Beyer would have been the first transgender person to serve as a state legislator, according to this article.
