U.S. considers major overhaul of financial regulations

A regulatory overhaul may be in the cards as the U.S., with its hodgepodge of rules and watchdogs, has witnessed foreign markets create mature capital markets with sophisticated but flexible regulations. "Our working assumption is that in this new globalized marketplace, we are engaged in a race to the top to achieve the optimal regulatory structure for our financial-services industry," said David Nason of the Treasury Department.
