Even trapeze artists use a safety net

For corporate professionals who have sacrificed lifestyle in favor of financial stability, a recession may be just the thing to encourage an entrepreneurial leap, says Taylor Smith of venture development firm The Spirus Group. Before giving notice, he recommends spending nights and weekends on activities such as researching the competition, choosing a business model and finding suppliers. "Make sure that the time when you've let go of one trapeze handle and catch the other one is as short as possible," he says.
