Lawmakers propose to link Medicare payments to hospital performance

Sens. Max Baucus, D-Mont., and Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, have introduced a draft bill that would link a hospital's Medicare reimbursements to its ability to comply with quality measures. The proposed Medicare hospital value-based purchasing program would assess how well a hospital performs on quality measures, as well as overall patient satisfaction of hospital care, the senators said.
