Construction speeds up at D.C. suburb's transit site

The pace of construction at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center in Silver Spring, Md., accelerated this fall, observers said. Excavation, rock blasting and construction of a big retaining wall will continue into the winter, officials said. However, concrete and steel will not rise from the site -- a few blocks outside Washington, D.C., and one of the region's major transportation hubs -- until late winter or early spring, they added.
