Fast track program for green-technology patents raises some concerns

A pilot program sponsored by the U.S. Commerce Department's Patent and Trademark Office will fast track patent approvals to allow green technologies, such as alternative fuels and carbon-capture methods, to get on the market faster. Under the program, approvals could be made within a year as opposed to the usual 40-month wait. However, critics have raised concerns over the expedited system resulting in more legal battles than innovation.
