San Francisco law transforms sidewalks into green space

A recent law in San Francisco allows residents to replace part of the sidewalks in front of their homes with green space. Architect and landscape designer Jane Martin was instrumental in the creation of the law. In addition to creating attractive green space, permeable sidewalk space also reduces storm-water runoff. Renters and other residents without space to garden are also participating in sidewalk planting, she noted.
