API endorses voluntary disclosure of fracking chemicals

The American Petroleum Institute supports a plan to voluntarily divulge the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing fluids and create a state-based chemical-disclosure registry. The proposal will work because "states are the proper authority for determining requirements for chemical disclosure," said Jack Gerard, president and CEO of API. "It is critical that we ensure confidential business information is protected" in any disclosure, he added.
