C.R. England finds trains are greener, cheaper than trucks

C.R. England has slashed the emissions associated with transporting its intermodal shipping containers by sending the refrigerated boxes by rail, environmentalists say. The firm saved the equivalent of 3.5 million gallons of gasoline in 2009 by using rail rather than trucks, and it benefited from transit times and service reliability that were at least as good as road-based transportation.
