Chevron, Transocean face legal action in Brazil over oil spill

Prosecutors urged a Brazilian court to impose a $10.8 billion fine against Chevron and Transcoean for a November oil spill and order the companies to suspend operations in the country. "Chevron and Transocean weren't capable of controlling the damages from a spill of 3,000 barrels of oil, which proves a lack of environmental planning and management," prosecutors said. Chevron said in a statement that it "responded responsibly to the incident at its Frade Field and has dealt transparently with all Brazilian authorities."
