High admission rates correlate with more readmissions

Data on the readmission rates of Medicare patients discharged with congestive heart failure or pneumonia showed that overall hospital admission rates were the biggest factor in readmission rates. In the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers reported that readmission rates for congestive heart failure patients ranged from 11% to 32%, while those with pneumonia range from 8% to 27%.
