How Lady Gaga helps 3 Oregon educators teach English

Three high-school English teachers in Oregon say they use pop culture to teach academic concepts including metaphors, irony and literature. In one lesson, the teachers ask students to analyze the lyrics of a Lady Gaga song before using those same skills to tackle higher-level poetry. One teacher instructed students to interpret an Xbox manual to prepare them for difficult texts. The teachers presented their ideas at a recent conference and have been solicited for a book contribution.
