Survey: 403(b) market offers an opportunity for advisers

Advisers have an opportunity to add value to small, nonprofit retirement plans by boosting participant education and helping shape the investment-choice menu, said Aaron Friedman of Principal Financial Group. Large plans are significantly more likely to hire an adviser, and just 20% of small plans had investment committees, according to a Principal Financial Group survey. Friedman's advice to break into small plans includes networking through community groups, houses of worship and charitable organizations.
