Five in running for Detroit schools chief job

On the eve of candidate interviews Thursday, a Detroit school board member tried in vain to scrap the search process for a new schools chief because of what he viewed as a weak field of finalists. Superintendent William Coleman III, who'd earlier been excluded from the short list due to his low grades, ended up winning an interview spot.
