U.S. allows some flexibility in Visa Waiver program deadline

Customs and Border Protection officials have been quietly telling airlines that allowing travelers from Visa Waiver Program countries into the U.S. without the required authorization after the Jan. 12 deadline will not result in penalties -- yet. Although CBP has sent information about the program to the affected countries, there is a concern that not all travelers have been informed of the change.
