15 air fleets sign up for alternative fuels

Fifteen passenger airlines and air-cargo companies from the U.S., Canada, Germany and Mexico have signed memorandums of understanding with Seattle-based AltAir Fuels and Los Angeles-based Rentech to purchase jet fuel made from either camelina or coal. Altair plans to make about 75 million gallons of fuel a year from camelina or similar feedstocks, and Rentech intends to make 250 million gallons a year of fuel made mainly from coal or petroleum coke.
