This was a busy year for capital-market activity at Camden Property Trust, but the results were worth the effort, said Ric Campo, the apartment REIT's president and CEO. "We're in really good shape," Campo said. "In the last 12 months, we've raised $1.2 billion to improve the balance sheet. We've recharged the balance sheet with equity." Some "value added" refinancing making use of programs backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac allowed the apartment REIT to extend its debt maturities and lock in lower interest rates for a long time, he said.
