DOE withholds funds from S.C. contractor

The Energy Department is withholding $4.4 million from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions for a number of violations, including an acid spill and an electrical explosion, at its Savannah River Site in South Carolina. The amount, which is part of a $16.3 million award, will be partially released as the company improves its safety measures at the site, the agency said.
