U.K. bankers foresee more mergers in 2010

London bankers expect mergers and acquisitions to increase next year as a result of still-weak capital markets. Many companies primed for IPOs will be unable to attract investors and will get snapped up by buyers instead, said Simon Smith, Morgan Stanley's U.K. head of investment banking. The value of M&A activity in the U.K. declined to £92.3 billion this year, its lowest level since 2003, according to Thomson Reuters.
