Column: Pilots should promote aviation to neighbors

Columnist Jamie Beckett encourages pilots to engage their neighbors in an effort to promote general aviation. Beckett, a certified flight instructor, recalls a public meeting in Connecticut where neighbors came out in force against a proposed airport. The experience revealed something about the power of perceptions, Beckett writes. "I learned a lot about how the non-aviation public views those of us on the other side of the airport fence."
