Appalachian states compete to secure major ethane-cracking plants

Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia are bidding to secure the construction of a major ethane cracker to boost jobs and their economies. Among the major chemical producers, Dow Chemical, Royal Dutch Shell, Bayer and Braskem are all looking to establish such facilities, provided that favorable state and federal rules come their way. "We had a lot of those types of jobs go overseas over the last 30 years. I think a lot of people are ready to have them come back again," said Kathryn Klaber, president and executive director of the Marcellus Shale Coalition.
