Senate deadlock revives risk of U.S. government shutdown

U.S. Cabinet secretaries began warning federal employees about an impending federal government shutdown, after talks over tax and spending measures in the Senate collapsed. Democratic and Republican leaders were unable to compromise on extending the current payroll-tax cut and authorizing the U.S. government to continue operating after Friday, when its spending authority runs out.
