Tulane University has linked up with the crowd-funding website Microryza, which provides alternative fundraising for scientists and health researchers. The site was founded by former University of Washington researchers about a year and a half ago and lets approved scientists at major universities seek public funds for their projects. "There needed to be a place online where people could fund research they actually care about," said co-founder Denny Luan. The site has generated about $500,000 and funded 70 projects.
