Cost of smallpox vaccinations sparks concerns for employers, unions, hospitals, insurers

The health care, labor and business communities are looking for assurances that the government will pay for vaccine-related costs that arise in the context of a "national homeland security program." While HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson indicated that the current plan is for health-care workers and other citizens to rely on their insurance, he did not rule out further steps along the lines of funds provided to states for emergency vaccination plans.
