Mermigas: Broadcast TV's revenue model in question

Quadrennial years, highlighted by the presidential election and the Olympics, traditionally have been a windfall for broadcasters, but current estimates for 2004 and 2005 ad spending don't look so promising, leading columnist Diane Mermigas to conclude broadcast could be in trouble. Cable has added additional revenue streams to combat shifts in the prevailing advertising model, a luxury not yet available to broadcast, which could lead to trouble, Mermigas says.
