House spending bill trims education

In a 215-213 vote Wednesday, U.S. House lawmakers approved a domestic spending bill that would impose a 1% across-the-board cut on the Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, pare NCLB-funded programs by 4% and freeze special-education and Title I funding at last year's levels. The bill's future in the Senate is uncertain.
