Gift-card sales climb as fees, restrictions disappear

Sales of gift cards are expected to reach $26.3 billion in 2007, up from $24.8 billion in 2006, and the average consumer will spend about $122.59 on gift cards this year, according to NRF. Many retailers have eliminated the extra fees and expiration dates that have bothered consumers in the past, a trend supported by some FTC rulings and state legislation.
