Hirshhorn Museum contemplates $5M "tent roof" sculpture

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., is pondering construction of a temporary balloon "roof" that would protrude through the doughnut-shaped museum's interior courtyard. The 145-foot-tall sculpture, designed by Diller Scofidio and Renfro, and made with resistant vinyl, would cost $5 million. Installation would begin in 2011.
