House delays Medicare payment cuts for doctors until March

The House passed a measure that would push back a 21% cut in Medicare reimbursements for doctors until March 2010 with the approval of a $636 billion military spending bill on Wednesday. Gene Ransom, executive director of Maryland medical society MedChi, welcomed the decision but cautioned that physicians may not accept Medicare if the payment cuts are not addressed permanently.
