Retailers fight online, in-store fraud

Retail surveys, police statistics and retailers' anecdotes all point to an increase in online credit card fraud and shoplifting during the economic downturn. Also, certain technological advances have created new opportunities for criminals. A National Retail Federation survey found that retailers are expected to lose $2.7 billion in return fraud during the holidays this year.
