$511M TIGER grants cover 46 projects in 33 states, Puerto Rico

The Transportation Department has awarded $511 million to projects in 33 states and Puerto Rico in the third round of the department's Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery grants. Rail and port-related projects received about 22% of the funding, and the ports of Jacksonville, Fla., and New Orleans each were awarded funds designated for construction of intermodal rail terminals. "The overwhelming demand for these grants clearly shows that communities across the country can't afford to wait any long for Congress to put American to work building the transportation projects that are critical to our economic future," Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said.
