Research suggests that cutting back on carbohydrates or taking melatonin may help reduce gastroesophageal reflux disease. Sleeping on the left side is another option, but be sure to avoid stomach sleeping. Research has found that may be the worst position for GERD because it increases pressure on the stomach and a muscle in the esophagus.
