Common core takes shape in Miss. schools

As Mississippi school districts take steps to implement the Common Core State Standards, officials say they are hopeful the changes will help their students better compete with their peers across the country and worldwide. "Students are learning to apply knowledge and understand that what they're learning will be used past high school," said Lynn House, interim state superintendent of education. "Common Core is tied to performance. It's a divergent process and a competency process. There's not just one correct answer."
