Thoratec clears hurdle to bring advanced heart pump to Japan

The Ministry of Health, Labor & Welfare in Japan has given Thoratec the go-ahead to market its HeartMate II system in that country. The device, targeted for Japanese launch by the end of the first quarter, is used to provide assistance with the pumping action of the heart in patients with advanced heart failure as well as those awaiting transplants.
